Lab. High-Performance & Sustainable Materials & Structures
Our research focuses on:
(1) Structural Engineering: High-performance RC/Composite structures, Structural risk analysis, and optimization under extreme loads (large earthquakes, impact loads, etc.), Sustainable structures (Eco-concrete, Bio- etc.), High-performance simulation (OpenSees, C++, Python), Structure repairing and strengthening, Seismic response analysis;
(2)Building Materials: Optimization of Eco-cement system, High-performance & sustainable materials, Smart materials, Recycling in construction; Functional materials; Bio-based materials
(3) Advanced technologies:
AI-based evaluation models, Compute-vision, Structural optimization, Smart formwork systems, Structures with 3D printed components, etc.

Points & Keywords of the research
Structural Engineering
The structures subjected to the following loads/actions are concerned by the research group: (1) earthquake loads; (2) long period cyclic loads; (3) environmental impacts. The structures include RC structures, steel-concrete composite structures containing high-performance or eco-materials such as HPC, ultra-high-strength steel, volcanic ash concrete, etc.
On the other hand, the demountable structures also are being concerned in the group.
Research methods/equipment:
Structural quasi-static test;
FEM/DEM simulation;
Multi-physic fracture mechanics (phase field models, continuum damage models)
DIC analysis;
AI tech. for Civil Eng. (Deep Learning in Computational Mechanics)
Innovative and Eco Building Materials
High-performance materials and friendly-environmentally materials are concerned, including,
(1) Optimize SCM-cement system, Eco concrete.
(2) High-performance materials, FRP, Lightweight HPCs.
(3) Concrete using volcanic-related materials and other by-product materials;
(4) Phase change materials for civil eng.
(5) Bamboo/timber
(6) AI optimization
